What Is the Fastest Production Car?

What are the world’s fastest production cars? You might not think of some of the most incredible supercars and hypercars as production models, but they are.

Speed and performance are considered the standard of excitement on the road. Ever since the beginning of the automotive industry, automakers have been working to find ways to drive faster. This need for speed is found deep within our primal desires to outperform other members of our species. While it seems more animalistic than most would like, it’s woven into our natural instincts; we, as humans, simply have better equipment and tools than animals.

With the Discovery Channel lesson over, let’s learn more about some of the fastest production cars in the world.

    7. Rimac Nevera (258 MPH)

There was a time, not long ago, when hitting 200 mph was thought to be the top performance level, but the Rimac Nevera has a top speed of 258 mph and is only seventh on the list. This incredible car can reach 60 mph in 1.85 seconds and is one of the fastest electric supercars. The Nevera comes with four electric motors that produce 1,914 horsepower and 2,300 lb-ft of torque.

    6. Bugatti Veyron Super Sport (268 MPH)

Although the Veyron has been out of production for a few years, it still holds the sixth position among the fastest production cars. This Veyron is the opposite of the Nevera, with an 8.0-liter quad-turbocharged W16 engine delivering 1,200 horsepower and 1,106 lb-ft of torque. The Veyron Super Sport holds the Guinness World Record as the fastest street-legal production car. This incredible Bugatti continues to find its way into our hearts and minds.

    5. SSC Tuatara (283 MPH)

Leave it to a company that’s an offshoot of something Carroll Shelby left behind to create a car that’s among the fastest in the world. The Shelby Supercar Company offers the Tuatara as one of the most incredible hypercars in existence. This car uses a 5.9-liter flat-plane crank twin-turbocharged V8 engine to produce 1,350 horsepower using 91 octane fuel and 1,750 horsepower when E85 is in the tank. The Tuatara can rocket to 60 mph in only 2.5 seconds, making it extremely quick.

    4. Bugatti Chiron Super Sport 300+ (305 MPH)

The 300-mph mark isn’t the benchmark for speed any longer. This level only lands a car in the fourth spot on this list. The Chiron is one of the fastest production cars in the world, using the same massive W16 engine as the Veyron. Bugatti tuned the engine to 1,600 horsepower and 1,180 lb-t of torque for the Chiron. This incredible speedster can hit 60 mph in 2.03 seconds, giving the well-heeled owners some exciting speed on the track.

    3. Bugatti Bolide (310 MPH)

Who would have thought that the French automaker, Bugatti, would hold three spots among the top seven fastest cars in the world? If you’re at all familiar with the Bolide, Chiron, and Veyon, that would be an easy question to answer. The Bolide takes the 8.0-liter W16 engine power even further with 1,825 horsepower and 1,364 lb-ft of torque. Although the top speed is higher in the Bolide than the Chiron, the Bolide reaches 60 mph in 2.17 seconds, which is slightly slower than the Chiron. When it comes to Bugatti, you’ll have to pick your poison.

    2. Hennessey Venom F5 (311 MPH)

The Hennessey Venom F5 eeks its way into the second position by offering a top speed that’s one mph faster than the Bugatti Bolide. The Venom F5 utilizes a rear-mid mounted 6.6-liter twin-turbocharged V8 engine that produces 1,817 horsepower and 1,193 lb-ft of torque. This power and speed puts the Venom F5 in the runner-up spot among the fastest production cars in the world. Unfortunately, only 24 models were produced, which makes it a limited and exclusive supercar.

    1. Koenigsegg Jesko Absolut (330 MPH)

Koenigsegg is all about raw power and performance and has hit the top mark with the fastest production car in the world. The Jesko Absolut uses a 5.0-liter twin-turbocharged V8 engine capable of 1,600 horsepower using E85 fuel and 1,200 horsepower when fueled by regular gasoline. The torque figure is 1,106 lb-ft. This incredible car has one of the smallest engines on this list, but it happens to be the fastest car by nearly 20 mph. This proves that there’s more to speed than engine displacement.

These are the world’s seven fastest production cars, which all deliver incredible speed and power to rocket around a track. Which of these cars is your favorite?
