The Numbers Don’t Lie the Power of the Dodge Charger EV
If muscle cars like the Dodger Challenger and Dodge Charger are your idea of having fun behind the wheel, you might be a little skeptical about the new electric Charger Daytona. But there’s no compromise with this new muscle EV. It delivers.
The Iconic Body Style Remains
Dodge didn’t mess with the muscle car look when it comes to the Charger EV. It replaces both the two-door and four-door Dodge Challenger and the four-door Charger in the lineup with a two-door coupe, but don’t worry; the four-door sedan arrives for 2025.
The new coupe is longer and wider than the old Challenger, giving rear-seat passengers some extra space to get comfortable, but it’s not afraid to take up space when it’s driving down a winding road. It easily asserts its dominance with a long rear overhand and wide haunches.
Tech You Didn’t See with the Old Muscle Cars
The new Charger EV heads straight into the 2020s with two 12.3-inch screens stretching across the front. One is the touchscreen for the infotainment system, and the other is a digital information display for the driver. There are no surprises with the UConnect infotainment system; it’s as excellent as ever, with easy-to-use commands and wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
Let’s Talk Driving Experience
The dual-motor setup in the Charger Daytona gets you all-wheel drive all the time and 456 horsepower to play with. Need a little boost? The Direct Connection Stage power upgrade gets you a 15-second power boost, adding 40 horsepower to the R/T and 80 horsepower to the Scat Pack. This means the Scat Pack will generate 670 horsepower for 15 seconds.
There’s just something about the sound of the engine with a muscle car. You’ll still get it even with the Charger’s electric powertrain thanks to a synthetic exhaust soundtrack that Dodge called Fratzonic Chambered Exhaust, which makes sure everyone knows when you’re coming and going.
What’s The Range?
While muscle car owners don’t usually care about fuel efficiency, it’s a little different when we’re talking about EVs. According to Dodge, the Charger Daytona R/T should have about a 308-mile range when the battery is fully charged. The Scat Pack gets a little less range, with 241 miles.
Both will have a 100.5 kWh battery pack that will support DC fast charging. You won’t have to sit for very long when you need to replenish the battery because it will charge from 20% to 80% in just about 24 minutes. If you’d rather charge it up at home, all models will offer a Level 2 at-home charging station.
All Aboard – Let’s Get Comfortable
From the supportive front seats to the spacious rear seats, everyone in the Charger EV has a comfortable place to sit. A fixed glass roof is available to let in lots of natural light, and the pistol-grip shift lever just adds to the overall muscle-car feel.
