What’s New With the 2025 Cadillac Lyriq?

New PowerShift and PowerUp 2 Charger Options

When you head to the Cadillac dealer, you’ll notice a few differences in the 2025 Lyriq. This article will introduce the new PowerShift and PowerUp 2 charger options.

The Cadillac Lyriq is now in its third model year, and there are a few new things for drivers to get excited about. Compared to the preceding 2024 model year, the 2025 Lyriq has an updated exterior paint options list and no more Tech trim level.

Those aren’t the most exciting changes that have come to the Cadillac Lyriq for 2025. For most drivers, the excitement stems from two new home charging solutions the automaker has added to the lineup: GM PowerUp 2 and GM Energy PowerShift.

What Will the New Chargers Cost?

As of late March, GM has not yet released the pricing details for the Lyriq’s two new charger options. However, experts estimate that the PowerUp 2 charger should cost around $699. The PowerShift charger will cost around $1,699.

Remember that the pricing estimates for these exciting new chargers are before taxes and installation. They’re available for all trim levels of the 2025 Cadillac Lyriq, including Luxury 1, 2, and 3, and Sport 1, 2, and 3 trims. Buyers will be able to use them with both RWD and AWD Lyriq models.

What’s the Big Deal With the New Chargers?

The most exciting thing about Cadillac’s decision to release these new chargers is that the PowerShift charging solution opens up the option of bi-directional home charging. Bi-directional charging refers to using an EV to charge home appliances and devices during a power outage.

To enable bi-directional charging with the PowerShift charging solution, drivers will also need to purchase a GM Energy Vehicle-to-Home Enablement Kit. GM will sell this kit separately, but it should be well worth the money for those living in areas with frequent outages.

What Happened to the Ultium Branding for the New Lyriq?

There’s another related change to the Lyriq for the 2025 model year, though it’s less noticeable than the two new charging solutions. GM has decided to phase out Ultium branding in connection with the Lyriq and all of its vehicles’ battery and drive motor systems.

You’ll still see references to the Ultium brand. GM will continue to use it in relation to its joint venture with LG Energy Solutions, known as Ultium Cells LLC.

Is It Worth Investing in the New Chargers?

Everyone who is buying a 2025 Lyriq should take the time to discuss charging options with a local Cadillac dealer. The new charging solutions offer affordable ways to keep the Lyriq charged and ready to roll in one case and provide bi-directional charging in the other.

While it’s true that the PowerShift charging solution is more expensive than the PowerUp 2, homeowners should seriously consider investing in the bidirectional charging-enabled power station. It could be a massive boon to their home lives in the event of short or long-term power outages.
